Niina Kratz (b. 1987, Jyväskylä) is a Finnish contemporary artist whose textile-based works push the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Known for her distinctive tying, folding and material-driven techniques, Kratz creates large-scale compositions where tension, movement and bold tactility form the core of the visual experience.

Her process is physically demanding and emotionally layered; each piece carries the traces of motion, pressure, and instinctive decision-making. From afar, the works appear calm and minimal - yet up close, they reveal knots, folds, shadows, and subtle complexities that hold an almost unspoken emotional charge. Transforming fabric into something simultaneously delicate and monumental, Kratz reveals the expressive potential of material and surface.

Influenced by architecture, psychology, and the Nordic landscape, Kratz works predominantly with monochrome palettes that heighten focus on texture, structure, and form. Her sculptural shapes and modern minimalistic colorscapes create a refined, almost futuristic aura rooted in Scandinavian simplicity. She creates exquisite works that resonate with discerning collectors, and her pieces are held in collections worldwide, reflecting the growing global recognition of her distinct artistic voice.

Through her mastery of material and shape, Kratz invites viewers to pause, look closely, and sense the tension and softness held within the surface. Her works hold space for reflection and complexity, inviting viewers to seek light through darkness and to encounter a quieter kind of beauty that lingers long after the first impression.

She lives and works in Tampere, Finland.
